Madecassic acid mostly comes from the extraction of Centella Asiatica. Centella Asiatica was pulverized and extracted with ethanol solution under reflux. 

The centellicum gotu kola extract was filtered, and the filtrate was used to recover the solvent. Add water at 40-50°C to dissolve and filter. Dissolve the filter residue in 50-60v% ethanol solution to obtain a crude extract. The crude extract was applied to a XAD-9 macroporous resin column. Elute with acid, and combine the affluent and acid wash. 

The pH value of the combined solution was adjusted to neutral, filtered, and the filtrate was applied to the XAD-3 macroporous resin column again. It is eluted with 30-40% ethanol by volume and detected by thin layer chromatography. The ethanol eluate containing the Asiatic acid component was collected. Elute with 55-65% ethanol by volume. 

Following detection, the ethanol eluate containing madecassic acid was collected. The eluate of madecassic acid is recovered with ethanol and dried to obtain madecassic acid.
