The ethyl acetate layer (27 g) was subjected to silica gel column chromatography, eluting with a dichloromethane-methanol gradient. The scopoletin was obtained by direct recrystallization, and the samples were subjected to repeated silica gel column chromatography, Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography, open ODS column chromatography, and recrystallization to obtain compounds 9-methoxycanthin-6-one, laurycolactone A, β-carboline-l- propionic acid.

Tongkat Ali root 25 kg. The samples were extracted with 95% ethanol solution under reflux 3 times, 2 h each time. The extract was concentrated under reduced pressure and extracted three times with equal volumes of ethyl acetate and n-butanol, respectively, and the solvent was recovered under reduced pressure. The ethyl acetate extract layer (90 g) was subjected to silica gel column chromatography, eluting with a dichloromethane-methanol gradient. The eluate was recrystallized to obtain the compounds eurylene, 3β-hydroxy-stigmast-5, 22-dien-7-one. The n-butanol extracted layer (250 g) was subjected to silica gel column chromatography. Elution with dichloromethane-methanol gradient gave compounds 13β, 21-dihydroxyeurycomanone, iandonol.
