What is Garcinia Extract Powder?

Garcinia Extract Powder is extracted using Garcinia Cambogia as a raw material. Its main ingredient is hydroxycitric acid (HCA). Garcinia cambogia grows mainly in South Africa and tropical Asia. How to extract Garcinia Extract Powder?

Take the Garcinia cambogia peel and soak it in boiling water for 20 hours, repeat the extraction 4-5 times, concentrate all the extracts, add enough methanol, filter to remove the pectin, add excess NaOH aqueous solution after the filtrate is concentrated, and then add methanol until the layers are separated. Wash with methanol several times, and add hydrochloric acid to neutralize the acidity to obtain sodium hydroxycitrate.

The raw materials of garcinia fruit powder were repeatedly extracted three times with alkyl alcohol (the best effect of methanol) at higher than ambient temperature, filtered, and the filtrate obtained three times was collected and added to an alkyl alcohol-KOH solution of pH 10 to reflux. After stabilizing the pH to 10, a potassium salt precipitate formed, and the precipitate was washed with alkyl alcohol. The non-hygroscopic potassium hydroxycitrate was obtained after grinding in liquid nitrogen after vacuum drying. 

Using acetone to directly treat Garcinia Cambogia raw materials can also obtain pure HCA lactones: Garcinia Cambogia raw materials are soaked and extracted twice with 1.5 times the weight of acetone, evaporated and concentrated at 50 ºC to remove acetone, and then filtered with an appropriate amount of water. Use activated charcoal to remove pigment and concentrate syrup in a 90 ºC water bath. A small number of lactone crystals was added to crystallize overnight, extracted with ether, and filtered with anhydrous sodium sulfate. Vacuum distillation can obtain pure HCA lactone.

Hydroxycitric acid is a competitive inhibitor of ACLY, and the affinity of HCA for ACLY is much higher than that of citric acid.
